Believe it or not, it can be easier to work with a completely unfinished basement! With unfinished basements, you are essentially working from a clean slate and you are less likely to run into costly repairs hidden within your walls. Unfortunately many “finished” basements are poorly insulated (or not at all, notice that your basement is oddly colder than the rest of your house?). It is also common to find issues such as improper plumbing causing leaks, floods, water damage, odd odors, and mold. If these issues are not properly addressed the problem can quickly escalate resulting in more costly repairs. Make a list of what you need vs. want and/or what you do not want. Then number by importance.
